Take a box in a freezer bag out of the freezer, remove the bag, and place the box in the refrigerator for several hours so the berries will warm up to a temperature above freezing. Then they are ready to eat just like fresh ones. Use your usual sanitary techniques before eating. Handle elderberries in the freezer bag in accordance with your syrup-making recipe.
